Amplify Voices

"Our work is a direct attempt to amplify voices that have otherwise been told to be silent. Music, art, and creative expression are our tools in building a loud, celebratory, and formidable movement. We do not use these tools by accident; we use them because music and creative expression are accessible, community-based, collaborative, and political."

This month, as many organizers around the world that are part of our movement are preparing and delivering adapted programming in the midst of a global pandemic, we uplift the Point of Unity that describes the crux of the work that we all do so passionately.

Our work is not accidental. Our work is and must be an intentional commitment to the amplification and celebration of people who have been made quiet. Through silencing, oppression has seeped into our world in insidious ways, and our movement towards collective liberation can and has to push back against it.

Our work must commit to hard conversations. Our work must commit to critical and honest reflections of how our organizations uphold systems of power that syphon control. Our work is to immediately dismantle these systems. We do this by learning and unlearning, by collaborating and listening to each other. We do this through celebratory creative expression. By sharing skills and giving space for youth to grow and learn and become powerful narrators of their own stories. We do this by examining ourselves and our communities and implementing change that will build the kind of world we know is possible.

We know a liberatory and just world is possible. We are creating it—accessible and collaborative music, art, and creativity, are the tools that can make it happen.

Happy camp season to many of y’all.

With love and solidarity,

The GRCA Board of Directors

The GRCA Community Space

Make sure you utilize the GRCA Community Space: Anti-Racism Resources for Adult Learners, and Teaching Anti-Racism to Youth.

GRCA Community is a private virtual space for Girls Rock Camp Alliance member organizations, where you can find and share resources, join interest and working groups, explore and experience events happening all over the globe, and stay in touch with other GRCA members.

The GRCA Community platform exists thanks to our members’ dreamy visions of what could be possible, the hard work of our 2019-2020 GRCA Board Resource Sharing Platform Team & Jenn Johnson from Rain City Rock Camp for Girls in Seattle, Washington.

Outreach

We want to celebrate your victories and stand in solidarity with issues in your communities. If you have something you would like the GRCA to share to our network, please let us know by tagging us in a social media post that we can share or by emailing outreach@girlsrockcampalliance.org.

Comunidad GRCA

(Teaching Anti-Racism to Youth).
